Personal statement (AMCAS, AACOMAS, TMDSAS) · 5,300 characters, including spaces, carriage returns, and punctuation · required
In this section, you write a personal statement that will be shared with all your osteopathic medicine schools. Keep your topic general: the personal statement is sent to all the programs you apply to. You cannot save your essay if it exceeds the 5,300 character limit. Characters include spaces, carriage returns, and punctuation. Formatting such as tabs, italics, multiple spaces, etc., will not be saved. Once you submit your application, you cannot edit this section.
AACOMAS publishes no essay question, only the instruction to write a personal statement shared with every osteopathic school; reviewers should apply the standard why-osteopathic-medicine expectation. The Liaison help center is the official AACOMAS applicant guide (aacom.org links to it). Cycle dates fetched from the help center's Application Cycle Dates page; each college sets its own deadline inside that window.
Checked against help.liaisonedu.com/AACOMAS_Applicant_Help_Center/Filling_Out_Your_AACOMAS_Application/Supporting_Information/5_Personal_Statement on September 9, 2026. Programs change their prompts between cycles; confirm on the program’s own page before you submit.
