What we collect

• The essay you submit, and the prompt and school you pick for it.
• Anything you type in the optional activities fields.
• Your email address.
• Your IP address, used only to limit free reviews.

Who else sees it

• Anthropic — your essay is sent to their API to produce the review. Under their commercial terms it is not used to train models.
• TypeSafe — your essay may be sent to their Jev API to check our scoring. Jev returns a score only, and under their terms your essay is not used to train models.
• Google, only if you use the free essay topics quiz. Your quiz answers are sent to their Gemini API to suggest topics. Your essay is never sent to Google.
• Resend — sends your report link and receives your email address.
• Stripe — handles payment. Card details go to Stripe, never to us.
• YouTube, only if you press play on the video on the samples page. Nothing from YouTube loads before that click, and the player then loads from youtube-nocookie.com.

We do not sell your data or share it with anyone else, including schools. We never publish your essay or quote from it. The only people who see it beyond the services above are the ones you send your own share link to, or anyone the law requires us to disclose it to.

Totals across many essays

We study results across many essays at once, to improve the review and to share what we learn. For example: how many essays go over a word limit, or the average score on one part of the rubric. We only share totals like these. A total never includes your words, your name, your school, or anything else that could point to you or your essay, and we never report a group so small that it could.

How long we keep it

Your essay and report stay stored so you can reopen them, until you ask us to delete them. Email hello@nudgeessay.com and we will delete your essays, reports and address within 30 days.

Students under 18

Most college applicants are 17 or 18. If you are under 18, use this with a parent’s permission. We do not knowingly collect anything from children under 13.
