We are looking for students who want to be bridge builders—students who can connect people, groups, and ideas to span divides, foster understanding, and promote collaboration within a dynamic, interconnected, and vibrant global academic community. We are eager for you to tell us how your experiences have helped you understand what qualities and efforts are needed to bridge divides so that people can better learn and work together. Please consider one or more of the following questions in your essay: Tell us about a time you encountered a perspective different from your own. What did you learn—about yourself, the other person, or the world? Tell us about an experience you’ve had working with others who have different perspectives. What role did you try to play in helping people to work together, and what did you learn from your efforts? Tell us about someone you’ve observed who does a particularly good job helping people think or work together. How does this person set the stage for common exploration or work? What qualities do you admire in this person?
ONE essay, not three. The three bulleted questions are optional lenses inside a single response ("consider one or more of the following"), not separate essays. Formally optional, but College Transitions reports NYU now rates the essay "very important", so treat it as required in practice.

What SAT score do you need for New York University?
A 1560 puts you in the top quarter of the students who enrolled, a 1520 at their midpoint, and a 1480 at the bottom quarter, meaning one in four enrolled students scored below it. The same three points on the ACT are 34, 34 and 35. A quarter of an enrolled class scoring under the 25th percentile is not a rounding error, so a score below the range is a reason to strengthen the rest of the application rather than a reason not to apply.

SAT totals are the reading and math bands added together, which is how every source in this market reports them and is an approximation of about 10 to 20 points, because the two sections are correlated.
