Brown University essay review

Brown University asks every applicant for four school-specific essays for 2026-27, capped at 150-250 words and 100-150 words. A NudgeEssay review reads your draft against the Brown University prompt you pick, not against a general checklist: six rubric bands scored 1 to 5, notes on your own sentences in the margin, a map of where a reader's attention holds and where it drops, and a ranked list of fixes with the biggest one first. The first fix and the line a reader kept come back free; the full marked-up report is $49 for one essay or $299 for 20.

The Brown University prompts and deadlines below were read on Brown University's own admissions site on 2026-08-18. NudgeEssay is not affiliated with Brown University and makes no claim about any admissions decision.

  1. Supplement 1 · 150-250 words

"There is something distinctive about Brown students. It is a blend of intellectual curiosity, creativity, and humility. A commitment to collaboration. An openness to new ideas and perspectives. A desire to make the world better. And it is resilience: the ability to recover and thrive after experiencing difficulties." From President Christina Paxson's 2025 Convocation Address. How will you use these characteristics or others to shape your approach to the Open Curriculum?

What the review does to your Brown University essay

It reads the draft cold, the way a stranger with four hundred more files to get through reads it, and answers the question that decides the essay: what is still there a week later. Then it scores six rubric bands from 1 to 5, each with a short quote from your own essay that drove the band and two or three sentences on what would raise it.

It marks your own sentences in the margin, maps where a reader’s attention holds and where it drops across the draft, screens for the patterns that read as AI-written or consultant-written, names the stock archetypes the essay is falling into, and ranks the fixes with the biggest one first. It points at your own material and never writes a sentence for you to paste.

Prompt fit is judged first, before any opinion of the writing: each distinct ask in the Brown University prompt is checked separately, because an essay aimed near the prompt rather than at it is the most common fatal miss in a paid draft.

All 23 checks are listed on what the review checks. Seven complete reports on sample essays are published unedited, exactly as the engine wrote them, on the samples page, and what a college essay grader leaves out explains where the six bands stop and the read begins.

What Brown University reports about admissions

Brown University admits 5.4% of applicants. The middle 50% of enrolled students scored 1510-1580 on the SAT and 34-35 on the ACT.

From the federal College Scorecard, pulled 2026-09-17. Score figures describe enrolled students, not applicants and not admits, and they are not a cutoff. No admission probability is stated anywhere on this site, because colleges do not publish admit rates conditional on a score, so any single percentage would be invented. The free chance me tool sorts a list into reaches, targets and likelies and gives no percentage either.

Questions

How many essays does Brown University require?
Brown University asks every applicant for four school-specific essays for 2026-27, capped at 150-250 words and 100-150 words, plus 4 more that only some applicants meet, such as one undergraduate college or one program. Each prompt is printed word for word on this page and on the Brown University requirements page, with the date it was last read on Brown University's own admissions site.
What is the word limit on the Brown University essays?
The limits run from 150 words to 250 words across the 4 prompts every Brown University applicant meets. Each prompt's own cap is printed beside it above, taken from Brown University's own admissions page. A range such as 150 to 250 words is counted at its upper number.
Is the review written against the Brown University prompts or against a general checklist?
Against the prompt you pick. You choose which Brown University prompt the draft answers before the read starts, and the report judges whether the essay answers that prompt's distinct asks, each one separately, before it forms any opinion of the writing. A well-made essay aimed near the prompt is the most common fatal miss in a paid draft, so prompt fit is judged first rather than last.
When is the Brown University application deadline?
The first deadline is Early Decision on November 1, 2026. Brown University publishes 2 rounds for 2026-27: Early Decision on November 1, 2026, Regular Decision on January 5, 2027. Dates come from Brown University's own admissions site, read on 2026-08-18, and a college can move a date mid-cycle, so confirm on Brown University's own page before you rely on it.
How much does an essay review for Brown University cost?
$49 for one essay, $199 for a pack of 10, or $299 for a pack of 20, which is about $15 an essay. Every essay includes one free re-read of the revised draft and nothing expires. You see your report in redacted form, with the first fix and the line a reader kept, before you decide whether to pay.
Is NudgeEssay connected to Brown University?
No. NudgeEssay has no relationship with Brown University or with any other college, is not endorsed by Brown University, and does not predict, influence or guarantee any admissions decision. The Brown University prompts and deadlines on this page were read from Brown University's own public admissions pages and are linked to their source.
