Pomona College essay review

Pomona College prints five supplemental prompts for 2026-27 and asks every applicant to write two of them, capped at 150 words and 250 words. A NudgeEssay review reads your draft against the Pomona College prompt you pick, not against a general checklist: six rubric bands scored 1 to 5, notes on your own sentences in the margin, a map of where a reader's attention holds and where it drops, and a ranked list of fixes with the biggest one first. The first fix and the line a reader kept come back free; the full marked-up report is $49 for one essay or $299 for 20.

The Pomona College prompts and deadlines below were read on Pomona College's own admissions site on 2026-08-18. NudgeEssay is not affiliated with Pomona College and makes no claim about any admissions decision.

What Pomona College asks you to write

Word for word, from Pomona College’s own admissions pages. Pick the one your draft answers in the box below and the read is judged against that prompt’s own asks.

  1. Supplement 1 · 150 words

What draws you to the subject(s) you selected as potential major(s)? If undecided, share more about one of your academic passions or interests.

Labelled "Academic Interest Statement" on Pomona's site. The label and the "(150 words)" limit appear in the same bullet as the prompt text.

  2. Supplement 2 · 250 words · not an essay

Pomona is home to a diverse community of faculty, staff and students who, through close ties and collaboration, enable each other to identify and explore their greatest passions. Considering this, respond to one of the following:

Labelled "Short-Response Essay" on Pomona's site. This is the stem only; the three answer options are the next three entries and the student answers exactly ONE of them. In the page HTML the options are a nested <ul> inside this bullet.

  3. Supplement 3 · 250 words

Reflecting on a community that you are a part of, what values or perspectives from that community would you bring to Pomona?

Option 1 of 3 under the Short-Response Essay stem above. Answer only one option.

  4. Supplement 4 · 250 words

Describe an experience you had outside the classroom that changed the way you think and/or how you engage with your peers. What was that experience and what did you learn from it?

Option 2 of 3 under the Short-Response Essay stem above. Answer only one option.

  5. Supplement 5 · 250 words

Choose any person or group of people in your life and share how they would describe you.

Option 3 of 3 under the Short-Response Essay stem above. Answer only one option.

What the review does to your Pomona College essay

It reads the draft cold, the way a stranger with four hundred more files to get through reads it, and answers the question that decides the essay: what is still there a week later. Then it scores six rubric bands from 1 to 5, each with a short quote from your own essay that drove the band and two or three sentences on what would raise it.

It marks your own sentences in the margin, maps where a reader’s attention holds and where it drops across the draft, screens for the patterns that read as AI-written or consultant-written, names the stock archetypes the essay is falling into, and ranks the fixes with the biggest one first. It points at your own material and never writes a sentence for you to paste.

Prompt fit is judged first, before any opinion of the writing: each distinct ask in the Pomona College prompt is checked separately, because an essay aimed near the prompt rather than at it is the most common fatal miss in a paid draft.

All 23 checks are listed on what the review checks. Seven complete reports on sample essays are published unedited, exactly as the engine wrote them, on the samples page, and what a college essay grader leaves out explains where the six bands stop and the read begins.

What Pomona College reports about admissions

Pomona College admits 7.1% of applicants. The middle 50% of enrolled students scored 1490-1560 on the SAT and 33-35 on the ACT.

From the federal College Scorecard, pulled 2026-09-17. Score figures describe enrolled students, not applicants and not admits, and they are not a cutoff. No admission probability is stated anywhere on this site, because colleges do not publish admit rates conditional on a score, so any single percentage would be invented. The free chance me tool sorts a list into reaches, targets and likelies and gives no percentage either.

Questions

How many essays does Pomona College require?
Pomona College prints five supplemental prompts for 2026-27 and asks every applicant to write two of them, capped at 150 words and 250 words. Each prompt is printed word for word on this page and on the Pomona College requirements page, with the date it was last read on Pomona College's own admissions site.
What is the word limit on the Pomona College essays?
The limits run from 150 words to 250 words across the 5 prompts every Pomona College applicant meets. Each prompt's own cap is printed beside it above, taken from Pomona College's own admissions page. A range such as 150 to 250 words is counted at its upper number.
Is the review written against the Pomona College prompts or against a general checklist?
Against the prompt you pick. You choose which Pomona College prompt the draft answers before the read starts, and the report judges whether the essay answers that prompt's distinct asks, each one separately, before it forms any opinion of the writing. A well-made essay aimed near the prompt is the most common fatal miss in a paid draft, so prompt fit is judged first rather than last.

Pomona College publishes 3 rounds for 2026-27: Early Decision on November 15, 2026, Early Decision II on January 8, 2027, Regular Decision on January 8, 2027.
