MBA essay prompts and requirements for 2026-27, at 25 business schools
Business school essays ask two things in different words: what you want to do after the degree, and why this program is where you do it. Most programs add one or two more, such as what you would bring, a setback, or a value. Limits run from 50 words to about 1,000, and every program writes its own prompts each cycle, so the prompts here are the ones for this cycle.

What readers look for
The goals essay is read on six bands. Each band in your report comes with the sentence that earned it and what would raise it.
- 1
Goals Clarity
Short-term and long-term goals a reader could repeat back, and a "why now" that follows from the career so far.
- 2
Why This Program
Named resources (courses, clubs, centers, faculty, treks) used correctly, and the transferability test: swap the school and the essay should break.
- 3
Leadership and Impact, Evidenced
Concrete and quantified, with the writer's own role clear. "I led" with no decision, number or outcome lowers it.
- 4
Self-Awareness
Honest reflection: a real gap, setback or weakness named without spin, and what the writer did about it.
- 5
Structure and Economy
Carries a committee member through at the cap with no burned setup; the plan is visible early and the ending lands.
- 6
Professional Voice
Sounds like a specific working adult, and this one. A consultant's template, generic ambition language or AI sheen lowers it.
The other prompts a program sets (community, leadership, a setback, an optional essay) are read on their own bands.

- Yes. The read is written for an adult applicant, not a high school senior: it scores six bands, quotes your own sentences back to you, shows where a reader's attention drops, and ranks the fixes. The first fix and the line a reader kept are free to read.
- Which MBA programs are covered?
- 25 programs for 2026-27, each on its own page with the prompts word for word, the length the program states, and a link to the page they were read from.
- What does the free read include?
- The one sentence a reader remembered, your top fix in full, one note on your own writing, and where attention drops across the draft. The rest of the report, every note, both rewrites and all six bands argued, unlocks with the paid report.
