No essays at all: Georgia Southern application takes no personal statement either. Exception: the Honors College, and two cohorts inside it.
Georgia Southern University reads no essays at all: Georgia Southern application takes no personal statement here, and there are no supplemental questions. Admission rides on your transcript, course rigor, and the activities you list. Your writing effort belongs to the other schools on your list.
Georgia Southern itself does not answer this question anywhere. Its first-year pages, its apply page and its deadlines and requirements page were all read on 2026-09-17, and the freshman requirement list on them is a high school transcript and a GPA of 2.5 or higher: no essay, personal statement or writing supplement is named in either direction. The only page on the whole site that says the word essay about a first-year applicant is the Honors College page, which is a separate application. The one place a positive answer exists is Georgia Southern's own profile on the Common App, which carries the line "No personal essay required - First Year". That profile, not Georgia Southern's website, is the source for the answer above.
The Honors College is the exception, and it can be up to two essays. Its application is opened from your Georgia Southern application status portal after you apply, whether you applied through Georgia Southern or the Common App, and Georgia Southern prints the prompt in full: "Please explain your career goals and plans for the future. Please include reasoning for your interest in a particular major as well as why participating in the Honors College at Georgia Southern would assist you in achieving your goals and enhancing your education at Georgia Southern." No word limit is published; the page calls it "a brief essay". Inside the same application you may also apply to two cohort programs, each of which adds a second essay. Honors Global Scholars: "What has inspired you to learn more about a particular country or culture? Was it something you read? A movie or television show you came across? Music? Another life experience? Reflect on one of these items and also tell us how it has influenced your desire to travel and study abroad." Honors Savannah Scholars: "How do you imagine the experience of living in Savannah during your college years will affect your academic and personal growth?" January 15, 2027 is the priority date for scholarship consideration and April 15, 2027 is the final Honors deadline, by which you must also already be admitted to Georgia Southern. None of it is part of the ordinary application, so if you are not applying to Honors there is still nothing to write.
August 1, 2027 is a priority date, not a closing date: it is the date to work to, and the application stays open past it. The application itself closes one week before the first day of classes. There is no early round to weigh either way.

What SAT score do you need for Georgia Southern University?
A 1133 puts you in the top quarter of the students who enrolled, a 1055 at their midpoint, and a 986 at the bottom quarter, meaning one in four enrolled students scored below it. The same three points on the ACT are 18, 20 and 23. A quarter of an enrolled class scoring under the 25th percentile is not a rounding error, so a score below the range is a reason to strengthen the rest of the application rather than a reason not to apply.
US Department of Education, College Scorecard (2026-09-17). Percentiles describe students who enrolled, not everyone admitted. SAT totals are the reading and math bands added together, which is how every source in this market reports them and is an approximation of about 10 to 20 points, because the two sections are correlated.
