No essays at all: Cal State Apply takes no personal statement either. Exception: the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), and the GE Honors Program.

Sacramento State (CSU Sacramento) reads no essays at all: Cal State Apply takes no personal statement here, and there are no supplemental questions. Admission rides on your transcript, course rigor, and the activities you list. Your writing effort belongs to the other schools on your list.

Sacramento State never states this policy outright. Its "Before Applying To Sacramento State" checklist names unofficial transcripts, optional test scores, work and activity hours, a Social Security number, citizenship status, a payment method, and parents' or your own income, and the only writing-adjacent line on it is conditional: "Applicant's parents' employment background and two letters of recommendation (Note: This only applies if you're applying to EOP)." No essay or personal statement appears for the ordinary application. The sentence that answers the question belongs to the California State University rather than to Sacramento State: "Applicants do not need to submit any letters of recommendation, resumes or personal statements. A majority of the admissions decisions are based off of academic coursework they enter into the application." That system statement, plus a campus checklist with no writing in it, is what the answer above rests on.

Two routes ask for writing. EOP is the exception the CSU names system-wide, "Applicants do need to submit an essay and two letters of recommendation if they are applying to the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)", and Sacramento State is the campus that actually prints the questions. It calls them EOP Biographical Questions rather than an essay, answered inside Cal State Apply under Supporting Information, and they are real writing: "Briefly describe your family's economic background. Include information about your financial challenges."; "Why would you like to attend college? Discuss your career and personal goals. Are there any circumstances, school experiences, or people that influenced your preparation or motivation to attend college...? Please explain."; "Briefly discuss your academic background. Did you utilize any additional support at your high school, such as tutoring? Do your grades in high school and/or college reflect your academic ability or potential?" The EOP calendar is apply between October 1 and December 15, 2026, answer the biographical questions before January 15, 2027, and have two electronic letters in before January 31, 2027. The second route is the GE Honors Program, a separate application on Sacramento State's own site with an April 1, 2027 deadline; it publishes no prompt, but says of what it is looking for that "Strong applications demonstrate a student's desire to grow, strong critical thinking skills, a well-written writing sample, and passion for the things that are important to them." Neither is part of the ordinary application.

There is one round here: everything is due December 15, 2026. No early-application strategy to weigh: every file is read on the same calendar.

Does Sacramento State (CSU Sacramento) require the SAT or ACT?
Not according to the federal admissions survey, where Sacramento State (CSU Sacramento) reports that SAT and ACT scores are neither required nor recommended. Read that as "not required" rather than "never looked at": the survey lags real policy by a cycle or more, and some colleges carrying this flag have since brought testing back while others genuinely ignore scores altogether. Check Sacramento State (CSU Sacramento)'s own admissions page before deciding whether to sit or send a test, and treat that page as the answer where the two disagree. Either way, grades and course load are doing most of the work here.
What GPA do you need for Sacramento State (CSU Sacramento)?
The honest answer is that the federal data behind this page does not contain one. Colleges report their admit rate and their enrolled students' test scores to the Department of Education; they do not report a GPA distribution, so any site quoting an exact average GPA for Sacramento State (CSU Sacramento) is either reading that college's own Common Data Set or estimating. What the reported data does say is that Sacramento State (CSU Sacramento) admits 94.0% of applicants, and the more selective a college is, the closer to the top of the class its admitted students sit and the more the strength of your course load counts alongside the number itself.
How hard is it to get into Sacramento State (CSU Sacramento)?
Sacramento State (CSU Sacramento) admits 94.0% of the people who apply, which is about 9 in 10 applicants. Numbers inside the reported range put you in a real position here, and the application itself decides the rest.
