No essays at all: Common App takes no personal statement either. Exception: the Honors College.
University of Nevada, Las Vegas reads no essays at all: Common App takes no personal statement here, and there are no supplemental questions. Admission rides on your transcript, course rigor, and the activities you list. Your writing effort belongs to the other schools on your list.
UNLV itself does not answer this question anywhere. Its first-year page lists what admission takes (a 3.0 GPA across 13 core units, or an 1120 SAT, or a 22 ACT, or a Nevada Advanced or College and Career Ready diploma), then what to send after applying (a high school transcript, optional test scores, the $60 fee, the FAFSA and the Institutional Aid Application), and never names an essay, a personal statement or a writing supplement. No other page on unlv.edu addresses first-year essays either way. The one place a positive answer exists is UNLV's own profile on the Common App, which carries the line "No personal essay required - First Year". That profile, not UNLV's website, is the source for the answer above.
One route is the exception. University Honors is a separate application made after you have applied to UNLV and received an NSHE ID, and its document list asks for "Two Essays (prompts found within the UH Application)" alongside unofficial transcripts, test scores, a resume and one letter of recommendation. UNLV does not publish those two prompts: they sit inside the Honors application itself, so nobody can read them before starting it. The list is headed "Requested Documents for All Other Applicants" and is what UNLV requires of applicants whose unweighted GPA falls between 3.5 and 3.79; VIP applicants (National Merit Semifinalists, valedictorians, and an unweighted GPA of 3.8 or higher) are admitted automatically "upon submission of the requested documents below", which is the same list. Accepted by November 15 also means priority consideration for Honors College Scholarships. None of it is part of the ordinary UNLV application, so if you are not applying to Honors there is still nothing to write.
There is one round here: everything is due June 1, 2027. No early-application strategy to weigh: every file is read on the same calendar.

What SAT score do you need for University of Nevada, Las Vegas?
A 1240 puts you in the top quarter of the students who enrolled, a 1120 at their midpoint, and a 1010 at the bottom quarter, meaning one in four enrolled students scored below it. The same three points on the ACT are 18, 21 and 25. A quarter of an enrolled class scoring under the 25th percentile is not a rounding error, so a score below the range is a reason to strengthen the rest of the application rather than a reason not to apply.
US Department of Education, College Scorecard (2026-09-17). Percentiles describe students who enrolled, not everyone admitted. SAT totals are the reading and math bands added together, which is how every source in this market reports them and is an approximation of about 10 to 20 points, because the two sections are correlated.
