   UTSA highly suggests an essay or personal statement from applicants considered through holistic review, which is everyone who does not meet guaranteed admission.

   Their page: "If you are to be considered for admission through holistic review, submission of an essay or personal statement and two letters of recommendations are highly suggested." UTSA does not say whether its own prompt or the generic personal statement is wanted, so check ApplyTexas or the Common App.
