Kent State University reads no essays at all: Kent State Application takes no personal statement here, and there are no supplemental questions. Admission rides on your transcript, course rigor, and the activities you list. Your writing effort belongs to the other schools on your list.
Kent State never states this policy in so many words. Its first-year requirements page has an Application Materials section that names three things and only three, the application for admission, transcripts and optional test scores, and no essay appears in it. The one sentence on the page that mentions an essay is about the Honors College, which is invitation-only and a separate application: "Students who meet the criteria for admission to the Honors College will be invited to submit an application including an essay." A school whose ordinary materials list has no essay in it, and which names one only for a separate route, is a school that asks most applicants for none, and Kent State's own profile on the Common App agrees: "No personal essay required - First Year". Both are named here rather than turned into a sentence Kent State wrote.
One route is the exception, and you cannot choose it: "First-year admission to Honors is by invitation only. Invitations are sent beginning in October." The threshold is "a cumulative high school GPA of 3.7 or higher (weighted or unweighted)" plus admission to Kent State, and an invited student gets an email pointing at an Honors application inside the same applicant portal. That application is where the writing is: Kent State's first-year requirements page says students who qualify "will be invited to submit an application including an essay", and the Honors page adds "Your application responses should reflect your own experiences, ideas and voice. We strongly discourage the use of AI software to prepare your responses." Kent State publishes no prompt and no word limit for it. Fall applications are read in four cycles, December 1, January 1, February 1 and March 1, all at 11:59 p.m. ET, and Kent State warns that "the greatest number of admission offers will be made during the first review cycle". If no invitation arrives, there is nothing to write.
November 1, 2026 is a priority date, not a closing date: it is the date to work to, and the application stays open past it. The application itself closes seven days before the first day of classes. There is no early round to weigh either way.

What SAT score do you need for Kent State University?
A 1240 puts you in the top quarter of the students who enrolled, a 1120 at their midpoint, and a 1010 at the bottom quarter, meaning one in four enrolled students scored below it. The same three points on the ACT are 18, 21 and 25. A quarter of an enrolled class scoring under the 25th percentile is not a rounding error, so a score below the range is a reason to strengthen the rest of the application rather than a reason not to apply.
US Department of Education, College Scorecard (2026-09-17). Percentiles describe students who enrolled, not everyone admitted. SAT totals are the reading and math bands added together, which is how every source in this market reports them and is an approximation of about 10 to 20 points, because the two sections are correlated.

- What GPA do you need for Kent State University?
- The honest answer is that the federal data behind this page does not contain one. What the reported data does say is that Kent State University admits 86.3% of applicants, and the more selective a college is, the closer to the top of the class its admitted students sit and the more the strength of your course load counts alongside the number itself.
