Stanford University essay review

Stanford University asks every applicant for eight school-specific essays for 2026-27, capped at 50 words and 100-250 words. A NudgeEssay review reads your draft against the Stanford University prompt you pick, not against a general checklist: six rubric bands scored 1 to 5, notes on your own sentences in the margin, a map of where a reader's attention holds and where it drops, and a ranked list of fixes with the biggest one first. The first fix and the line a reader kept come back free; the full marked-up report is $49 for one essay or $299 for 20.

The Stanford University prompts and deadlines below were read on Stanford University's own admissions site on 2026-08-18. NudgeEssay is not affiliated with Stanford University and makes no claim about any admissions decision.

What Stanford University asks you to write

Word for word, from Stanford University’s own admissions pages. Pick the one your draft answers in the box below and the read is judged against that prompt’s own asks.

  1. Supplement 1 · 50 words

What is the most significant challenge that society faces today?

  2. Supplement 2 · 50 words

How did you spend your last two summers?

  3. Supplement 3 · 50 words

What historical moment or event do you wish you could have witnessed?

  4. Supplement 4 · 50 words

Briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities, a job you hold, or responsibilities you have for your family.

  5. Supplement 5 · 50 words

List five things that are important to you.

  6. Supplement 6 · 100-250 words

The Stanford community is deeply curious and driven to learn in and out of the classroom. Reflect on an idea or experience that makes you genuinely excited about learning.

  7. Supplement 7 · 100-250 words

Virtually all of Stanford’s undergraduates live on campus. Write a note to your future roommate that reveals something about you or that will help your roommate—and us—get to know you better.

  8. Supplement 8 · 100-250 words

Please describe what aspects of your life experiences, interests, and character would help you make a distinctive contribution as an undergraduate to Stanford University.

What the review does to your Stanford University essay

It reads the draft cold, the way a stranger with four hundred more files to get through reads it, and answers the question that decides the essay: what is still there a week later. Then it scores six rubric bands from 1 to 5, each with a short quote from your own essay that drove the band and two or three sentences on what would raise it.

It marks your own sentences in the margin, maps where a reader’s attention holds and where it drops across the draft, screens for the patterns that read as AI-written or consultant-written, names the stock archetypes the essay is falling into, and ranks the fixes with the biggest one first. It points at your own material and never writes a sentence for you to paste.

Prompt fit is judged first, before any opinion of the writing: each distinct ask in the Stanford University prompt is checked separately, because an essay aimed near the prompt rather than at it is the most common fatal miss in a paid draft.

All 23 checks are listed on what the review checks. Seven complete reports on sample essays are published unedited, exactly as the engine wrote them, on the samples page, and what a college essay grader leaves out explains where the six bands stop and the read begins.

What Stanford University reports about admissions

Stanford University admits 3.6% of applicants. The middle 50% of enrolled students scored 1510-1580 on the SAT and 34-35 on the ACT.

From the federal College Scorecard, pulled 2026-09-17. Score figures describe enrolled students, not applicants and not admits, and they are not a cutoff. No admission probability is stated anywhere on this site, because colleges do not publish admit rates conditional on a score, so any single percentage would be invented. The free chance me tool sorts a list into reaches, targets and likelies and gives no percentage either.

Questions

How many essays does Stanford University require?
Stanford University asks every applicant for eight school-specific essays for 2026-27, capped at 50 words and 100-250 words. Each prompt is printed word for word on this page and on the Stanford University requirements page, with the date it was last read on Stanford University's own admissions site.
What is the word limit on the Stanford University essays?
The limits run from 50 words to 250 words across the 8 prompts every Stanford University applicant meets. Each prompt's own cap is printed beside it above, taken from Stanford University's own admissions page. A range such as 150 to 250 words is counted at its upper number.
Is the review written against the Stanford University prompts or against a general checklist?
Against the prompt you pick. You choose which Stanford University prompt the draft answers before the read starts, and the report judges whether the essay answers that prompt's distinct asks, each one separately, before it forms any opinion of the writing. A well-made essay aimed near the prompt is the most common fatal miss in a paid draft, so prompt fit is judged first rather than last.
