A GradPilot alternative, and what a larger per-essay report buys for the extra

Have a draft? Get a free read on it below

GradPilot is an AI essay grader for admissions essays, for college and for graduate, medical, MBA and law applications. Its homepage offers two free Quick Reviews a day and a first Full Review for $5, which combines rubric scores, AI detection and practical suggestions, with cuts to help you meet the word limit. Its pricing page did not load when we checked; GradPilot’s own comparison article puts its Pro pack at $50 for 10 Full Reviews, with no subscription.

NudgeEssay is also priced per essay, but higher: $25 for one essay, $150 for 10, or $200 for 20, about $10 an essay. What comes back in about five minutes is a document: the one sentence a tired reader would carry out of your essay, six rubric bands built for that essay type, notes attached to your exact sentences, a paragraph-by-paragraph map of where attention drops, and a revision plan ranked by payoff. Every essay includes one free re-read of the revised draft, and nothing renews or expires. You see the verdict and the bands on your own essay before you pay anything.

The short version: GradPilot is the cheaper review, and if a rubric score and a few suggestions are what you need, it is the better buy. NudgeEssay costs more per essay for a longer document about that one essay, and a second read of the revised draft is already paid for.

NudgeEssay

Their own article: a first Full Review is "typically ready in about 2–3 minutes".

About 2 minutes, at any hour.

What the score is

GradPilot

When GradPilot is the better buy

If what you want is a rubric score and a set of suggestions, GradPilot charges less for it: $5 for a first Full Review and, by its own article, about $5 a review in a pack of 10. Its two free Quick Reviews come back every day, which nothing here matches. If you want an AI-detection result on your draft, it includes one and NudgeEssay does not. And if you are applying to graduate, medical, MBA or law programs, it publishes far more rubrics for them than NudgeEssay covers.

When a per-essay report is the better buy

If the essay matters enough that you want to know which one sentence a reader will remember, where in the essay attention drops, and which fix to make first, that is what the larger report is for, and the read of the revised draft is already included. A pack costs the same whether you finish in a week or in January, and nothing renews. And if you want a person as well, the expert-read plans put a written human read on top of the same report.

All 23 checks are listed on what the review includes, and seven complete unedited reports are free to read on the samples page. Read one and decide whether the difference is worth it. If the other options on your list are sold by the month instead, the Esslo comparison and the LumiSource comparison set a monthly plan beside a per-essay read.

What NudgeEssay is not

  • It is not an admissions decision, a prediction or a chance calculator, and it has no relationship with any college.
  • It is not a detector, and it does not tell you or anyone else whether a draft was written with help.
  • It will not write your essay, and it should not. Every college sets its own rule on AI, and checking your school’s policy is on you.
